Description

Ocean Nutrition Daphnia 100g is a frozen zooplankton food sized for smaller freshwater fish. Daphnia feed on algae, which makes them naturally high in carotene, a pigment that helps bring out the bright colours of your fish. Their hard outer shell acts as natural roughage and helps digestion. The pack contains Daphnia only, frozen fresh, and suits a broad range of community fish, livebearers, cichlids and labyrinth fish, as well as frogs, newts and axolotls.

Feeding frozen daphnia

Break off only what your fish will finish in a couple of minutes and thaw it in a little tank water before adding it, rather than dropping a frozen piece straight in. Pouring the thawed portion through a fine net lets you discard the melt water, which keeps excess nutrients out of the aquarium. Daphnia works well as a regular treat alongside a staple flake or pellet, and the small size suits little fish such as tetras, rasboras and bettas. Keep the pack in the freezer at all times and never refreeze food that has thawed.

Good to know

Because it is light and high in roughage, daphnia makes a good counterpart to richer foods such as bloodworms in a varied weekly menu.
