Choosing a length

Seven lengths are available: 10, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 and 42 inch, or roughly 25 to 107cm. For a bubble curtain, choose a stone a little shorter than the inside length of your tank, for example 20 inch in a 60cm aquarium or 32 inch in a 90cm tank. Longer stones need more air to bubble evenly along their whole length, so check that your pump has enough output, or run a long stone from a two-outlet pump. Lay it along the back glass, held down with suction cups or buried lightly under the gravel, and connect it with airline tubing and a non-return valve. When the bubbles become patchy, scrub the stone gently or replace it.
