Choosing and using it

Two sizes are available. The 3-inch disk suits smaller aquariums and modest air pumps, while the 5-inch disk spreads a wider curtain of bubbles across larger tanks but needs a stronger pump to produce an even stream from the whole ring. Check your pump’s output before choosing the larger size. Place the disk flat on the bottom, either on the substrate or partly buried so only the top shows, and fit a non-return valve in the airline so water cannot siphon back into the pump if the power goes off. The rising bubbles stir the surface, which improves oxygen exchange, particularly helpful in warm water or during medication. An air valve lets you calm the flow for small or slow-swimming fish. Over time, fine air stones can clog with deposits; when the bubbles become uneven, soak the disk in a mild vinegar solution, rinse thoroughly, or replace it.
