Training on the table

With a 90 x 90cm top, the table gives even large dogs room to sit or lie down comfortably. Set it on firm, level ground and check it does not rock before your dog jumps on. Begin by luring your dog onto the table with a treat, reward it for settling in a sit or down, and use a clear release word before it jumps off. Once that is reliable, build duration a second at a time, then add distance by sending your dog to the table from a few steps away. Keep sessions short and upbeat, and finish while your dog is still keen. Repeated jumping onto raised surfaces is best left until a young dog’s joints are mature.
