Wacool Compressed Coco Soil is a 100% natural coconut substrate supplied as a compact brick that expands to about 8 litres when soaked in water. It holds moisture well, absorbs waste and helps reduce odours, and its fine texture encourages natural digging and burrowing. How much you need

To work out how many bricks you need, multiply the floor length by the width and the depth you want, all in centimetres, then divide by 1,000 to get litres. A 60 x 45 cm floor at 5 cm deep needs about 13.5 litres, so two bricks. Because it holds moisture, it suits humidity-loving species and planted set-ups better than dry desert enclosures. Mist lightly to keep it damp but never soggy, and store unused bricks dry and sealed.

Good to know

Soak the brick in warm water until it breaks down fully, squeeze out excess water and fluff it up before spreading it in the enclosure. Spot-clean regularly and replace when soiled.
