Planning the flow

Extending the return lower into the tank can push flow into dead spots behind rockwork or across the sand bed, where detritus tends to settle. Keep in mind that a deeper outlet lets more water siphon back to the sump when the pump stops, so check that the sump has enough spare capacity, or that the return line has an anti-siphon hole near the surface, before running it permanently. Aim the flared tip so it does not blast corals directly, and adjust the joint until the surface ripples gently. The pieces are designed to push onto a Waterbox return, so confirm your fittings match.

Switch off the return pump before fitting, push the pieces firmly together and check nothing blows off when the pump restarts.
