The Exo Terra Plantation Soil 3-Pack contains three compressed bricks of coconut husk fibre from plantations in tropical Asia. This 100% natural, eco-friendly substrate raises humidity in tropical terrariums and suits frogs, salamanders and animals that like to dig or burrow, encouraging that natural behaviour. Because it holds and releases moisture well, it also works as an incubation medium for eggs. It doubles as a nourishing planting soil for live plants, which makes it a good base for natural, planted terrarium setups.

How much to use

The three bricks give 26.4 litres of substrate in total. Exo Terra recommends a layer of 5 to 10cm, so at 5cm deep the pack covers a floor of roughly 90 x 60cm, or about 60 x 45cm at 10cm deep for burrowing species. Break up the compressed fibre, moisten it, spread it out, then water or mist it to reach the humidity your animals need; a hygrometer helps you keep track. In a well-ventilated enclosure, a substrate heater under one end can raise humidity further. Spot-clean daily and replace the bedding fully when it becomes soiled.

Good to know

Store unused bricks sealed and dry, and remove droppings and uneaten food promptly so the substrate stays fresh between full changes.
