Sizing your return pump
A pump’s flow drops as the head height, the vertical distance from sump to tank outlet, increases, so check the flow at your actual height rather than the maximum figure. Fitting a ball valve and union on the return line makes servicing easier, and the sump level should always stay above the pump intake.

Rinse the intake and impeller area during routine sump maintenance, so calcium and debris do not build up and reduce the flow.
