Keeping the vacuum working

Having a spare bag lets you swap it halfway through a big clean, so suction stays strong without stopping to wash the first one. Empty and rinse the used bag in a bucket of tank water away from the aquarium, rather than shaking it out over the tank, so the dirt you have collected does not end up back in the water. Let it dry before storing to prevent odours, and check the fine mesh for small tears, as a damaged bag lets fine debris pass straight back into the aquarium. Over sand, fine grains can clog the mesh, so rinse it more often.
