JBL ProTemp S 200W UK-plug

JBL ProTemp S 200W is a heater with an integrated thermostat for aquariums of 100 to 300 litres, and this version is fitted with a UK plug. Its dial covers 20 to 34°C, and once set, the thermostat keeps the water within about 0.5°C of the chosen temperature. Heat passes into the water through a star-shaped ceramic element. The tube is unbreakable quartz safety glass, protected by a basket that keeps fish away from the heater and shields the aquarium pane. It is watertight to 100 cm, includes dry-running protection against electrical accidents and is TÜV tested.

Choosing and fitting it

JBL rates the 200W model for aquariums of 100-300 litres, roughly 80-120 cm long, so for a smaller tank the 100W version is the better match. It comes with a UK three-pin plug. Mount it at an angle near the filter outlet, or wherever the water moves steadily, so heat spreads evenly rather than collecting around the heater. Let it sit in the water for about 15 minutes before switching on, and unplug it and allow the same time to cool before lifting it out. Check the result against a separate aquarium thermometer after a day.

Good to know

Before it goes in, slide the heater into its protective basket and preset the temperature, then attach it inside the aquarium with the suction cups.
