Using the dimmer

The inline dimmer lets you fine-tune heat as the seasons and room temperature change, so recheck the basking spot with a thermometer whenever you adjust it. At 8.5 in, the dome spreads heat over a wider area, suiting larger enclosures for animals such as bearded dragons and tortoises. A dimmer is not a thermostat, so keep checking temperatures, and use dimmable heat or basking bulbs rather than mercury vapour or fluorescent UVB lamps.

Good to know

Use bulbs up to the stated maximum wattage, secure the fixture so it cannot fall into the enclosure, and check the basking temperature with a thermometer after adjusting. Unplug and let it cool before changing a bulb.
