Picking the wattage

The right bulb depends on the basking temperature your species needs, the height of the fixture above the basking spot and how warm the room is, so check the result with a digital probe thermometer after installing. If you are unsure between two sizes, start with the lower wattage and adjust the distance before stepping up. Make sure your dome is deep enough: PAR20 bulbs measure 6.3 x 6.3 x 8.2 cm and PAR30 bulbs 9.5 x 9.5 x 12 cm.

Good to know

Use the bulb in a ceramic-socket dome fixture rated for its wattage, keep it out of your reptile’s reach and control the temperature with a thermostat. Switch off and let the bulb cool before touching it.
