Mixing and storing

Mix the salt a day before a water change if you can, letting a pump circulate it for several hours with a heater so it fully dissolves and reaches tank temperature. Many reef keepers aim for a specific gravity of around 1.025 to 1.026, and a refractometer gives a more reliable reading than a swing-arm hydrometer. Keep the box tightly closed between uses, as salt mix draws moisture from the air and can cake.

Good to know

Mix with RO/DI water in a separate container, stir or circulate until fully dissolved and check salinity and temperature before adding it to the aquarium.
