JBL ProTemp S 50W

JBL ProTemp S 50W is a safety heater with an integrated thermostat for aquariums of 30 to 80 litres, about 40 to 80 cm long. The dial lets you preset any temperature from 20 to 34°C, which the thermostat then maintains to within about 0.5°C. Heat is passed into the water through a star-shaped ceramic element. The unbreakable quartz safety glass tube sits in a protective basket, keeping fish from direct contact and protecting the aquarium pane. It is watertight to 100 cm, includes dry-running protection against electrical accidents and has been TÜV tested.

Positioning and checking it

Place the heater near the filter outlet or intake, where moving water carries warmth around the whole tank, and mount it at a slight angle so heat rises evenly along the element. As it is watertight to 100 cm, it can sit fully under water in any small aquarium. After fitting, wait around half an hour before plugging in so the thermostat adjusts to the water temperature, then check the reading with a separate thermometer over the first day or two. In a cold room, or a tank near the top of the 80 litre range, a more powerful model may be needed.

Slide the heater into its basket and set the temperature first, then put it in the aquarium and press the suction cups onto the inside pane.
