The Komodo Neodymium Daylight Spot bulb is made with neodymium-impregnated glass, which gives it a subtle blue tint. This rare earth element filters out much of the yellow light that standard bulbs produce, giving a whiter, more natural-looking daylight that brings out the greens and reds in the enclosure. At the same time, 90% of the energy it uses is emitted as infrared heat, directed onto the basking area for healthy thermoregulation.

Wattage and pairing

At 150 W, this is a powerful basking bulb best suited to large enclosures and species that need a high basking temperature; in a small vivarium a lower wattage is easier to keep within safe limits. Check the basking spot with a digital thermometer after installing and adjust the height of the fixture if needed. The bulb provides light and heat but not UVB, so pair it with a separate UVB tube or lamp for species that need it.

Good to know

Use the bulb in a ceramic-socket dome fixture rated for its wattage, out of your reptile’s reach, and control it with a suitable thermostat such as a dimming thermostat. Switch off and let the bulb cool before handling it.
