The lower wattages suit small enclosures and smaller lizards, while the 75 to 150 W bulbs build a stronger hotspot and a wider temperature gradient for larger reptiles and taller terrariums. It screws into any standard E27 dome fixture.

Choosing a wattage

The right wattage depends on the basking temperature your species needs and how far the bulb sits above the basking spot. Start lower and step up only if a digital thermometer at the basking spot reads too cool. Check your dome is deep enough: the 25, 35, 50 and 75 W bulbs are 6.3 cm wide and 10 cm long, the 100 W is 8 x 12.1 cm and the 150 W is 9.5 x 13 cm. Leave a cooler retreat at the other end.

Good to know

Use the bulb in a ceramic-socket dome fixture rated for its wattage, keep it out of your reptile’s reach and control the temperature with a thermostat. Switch off and let the bulb cool before touching it.
