This ReptiWorks dome fixture has a dimmer built into the cable, so you can turn the heat output of your basking bulb up or down without buying a separate controller. A deep reflective dome and ceramic socket direct warmth onto the basking site. The 5.5 inch version takes bulbs up to 100 W, and the larger 8.5 inch dome handles up to 150 W for bigger enclosures.

Using the dimmer

A built-in dimmer is handy when a bulb runs slightly too hot, letting you lower the output instead of swapping to a smaller wattage. Use it with standard incandescent or halogen basking bulbs; mercury vapour and UVB fluorescent lamps should not be dimmed. As a dimmer is a manual control, check the basking spot at different times of day, especially as room temperatures change with the seasons, or add a thermostat for automatic control.

Good to know

Use bulbs up to the stated maximum wattage, secure the fixture so it cannot fall into the enclosure, and check the basking temperature with a thermometer after adjusting. Unplug and let it cool before changing a bulb.
