Helping a new tank cycle

Bacteria need something to feed on, so add an ammonia source, such as a pinch of fish food, while you dose the starter. Keep the filter running constantly and avoid cleaning filter media or using chemical treatments that could harm the developing colony. Bacteria also establish faster in warm water than in cold.
